About Uccelliera & Voliero: Uccelliera (birdhouse / aviary) is an old homestead on the hillslope of Castelnuovo dell'Abate in southeastern Montalcino, overlooking Mount Amiata near the Abbey of Sant'Antimo. Andrea Cortonesi - only son of a local sharecropping family - bought the farm in 1986, when Brunello was still a small world (about 60 bottling estates then). He replanted Sangiovese, released his first Brunello in 1991 (just 500 bottles), and by the late 1990s had earned a reputation for cult Brunello: artisan, site-driven, and deeply rooted in the land.
What makes these wines special: Uccelliera and Voliero are not two labels from one blended cellar - they are two distinct expressions kept separate. Uccelliera…
