Love Malbec that over-delivers on Value, You found it! If you're a Malbec fan and have never tried an unoaked version before, you've got to try this.

Alfredo Merlo founded Maal in 2002 with the vision of producing Malbec that was reflective of both site and style. The biutiful is an expression of fruit and no oak at all. Fresh and Vibrant. This is a single vineyard wine made from the steep hillsides of the Estate and aged in barrel for 18 months.

A delicious Malbec from Argentina in a clean, modern style and standing out from the crowd in that it is completely unoaked.  This allows the fruit to speak for itself and provide a true expression of the terroir. Intense dark fruit flavours dominate and there are spice, earthy and savoury notes to bring some depth and complexity to the wine. A very well balanced and approachable wine, probably at it’s best with food, red meat dishes and summer barbeques in particular, as you would fully expect!

The Wine:

MAAL quite simply stands for, Malbec-As-Alfredo-Likes. Produced by Alfredo Merlo, who trained at Harlan Estate in Napa before starting MAAL. He is a young winemaker from Mendoza and his vision is to produce unique, elegant and intense Malbec wines. The grapes are sourced from Altamira, San Carlos and Mendoza. The vines are situated on stony and sandy soils. 4 days pre-fermentative cold maceration takes place with a total of 25 days of maceration. The wine is completely unoaked.

Tasting Notes:

Deep, dark red appearance. Intense aromas of spice, ripe forest fruit and cassis on the nose. Concentrated fresh dark fruits and incredibly smooth, well integrated tannins on the palate.

What the critics say: Bright ruby-red. Reticent scents of dark berries, licorice, menthol and spices, lifted by a floral element. Nicely concentrated, supple Malbec with lovely texture and intensity to its dark berry and spice flavors. Suave and nicely filled in but light on its feet, finishing with broad, fine-grained, firm tannins and excellent length. Boasts lovely early balance but has the structure to evolve gracefully. Lively, sappy and impressive.

The 'Biutiful' Malbec displays a glass-staining purple color and begins with bright aromas of tar, blueberry compote and blackberry cordial. The palate is rich and decadent, showing a wonderful sense of place. Black fruits mingle with chocolate and cedar flavors in this outstanding effort from MAAL.
